Piano Restoration

Preserving The Legacy Of Fine Pianos

Good quality pianos can last a lifetime. When a piano is properly restored it can last generations.

The enduring quality of fine pianos is comforting in a world of increasingly short lived consumer products. This trend toward poor quality disposable goods may reduce costs and provide convenience, but ultimately unsatisfying and disappointing to the consumer. Alternatively, our piano restoration craftsmen ensure the legacy of your piano lives on for generations.

The beauty of high quality pianos is that the materials used were, and remain to be, of outstanding quality. This means that many pianos built by makers such as Steinway & Sons, Mason & Hamlin, Baldwin, Chickering and others are able to be rebuilt and restored with excellent results. Fortunately, the “good bones” of these instruments makes them good candidates for piano restoration by a skilled rebuilder. Moreover, we will replace only the worn out components of your piano and install new parts with quality craftsmanship.

If you have a piano that is a family heirloom and you are considering piano restoration, it is important to know the crucial components of the piano. Additionally, this choice depends upon your priority for the instrument. Oftentimes aesthetic concerns outweigh performance issues. Alternatively, you may be most concerned about performance. Regardless, Stairway Pianos will help you balance these two elements and make the right decision for you and your family.

Our Partners

We source and select the parts and materials for our restoration with thoughtful care. Each piano restoration project is unique and the parts that are chosen for the project are the foundation of a succesful rebuild. We source our pinblock and soundboards directly from Bolduc Pianos in Quebec, Canada. For some action rebuilds we will use parts directly from Renner USA. Our supply of choice for most other parts is Pianotek, based in Clawson, MI. While there are other choices for bass strings we like to use Mapes, Based in Tennesse for our bass strings. For Steinway restorations we use only genuine Steinway Parts directly from the New York factory.
