Appraisal And Evaluation

Piano Appraisal and Evaluatin: For Buying, Selling, Or Donation

If you are shopping for a used piano, trying to sell your piano or donating the piano to a charitable organization, you can find out the value of your piano through an appraisal or evaluation. Stairway Pianos offers the following types of piano appraisals and evaluations depending on your piano needs:

Comprehensive Piano Appraisal – I will perform an inspection of your piano in your home or at another location. During the evaluation, I will complete an appraisal form that outlines each element of the piano. The current condition will be documented. Further, each element of the piano will be rated as either Good, Needs Service, Needs Replacement, or Not Worth Repair.
We will document a market value, in addition to a replacement value of your piano based on the conditions we observe. Hence, our appraisals may be used to obtain an insurance replacement value or an IRS Form 8283 charitable donation value. Additionally, appraisals are useful for a buyer or seller of a piano to confirm a true current market value with dated back-up documents.  This appraisal takes about 3 days to complete, and our current fee is $375.

Pre-Sale/Pre-Purchase or General Piano Evaluation – We will perform an onsite inspection of the piano to provide you with the current market value of the piano for a buyer or seller. This package does not come with a detailed appraisal form. We highly recommended a piano evaluation when shopping for used pianos or before piano refinishing! Inspect of the piano will focus on major defects and repairs needs. This evaluation will be completed during a 45 minute service call at the current fee of $175.

NOTE:  It is not possible to receive an accurate appraisal without a professionally qualified piano technician completing an in-person examination. Digital appraisals are highly problematic, unreliable, and often incorrect.
